First attempt at a spruce beer. ;D Collected some spruce tips from the trees near our driveway a few weeks ago and kept them in the freezer until now.
Mash details are here.
Took 3 gallons and diluted it before the boil to 3.5 gallons.
Hop Schedule:
3/4 oz Fuggles @ 4.2 % 60 min
1/4 oz Tettnang @ 4.8% 60 min
1/2 oz Spruce Tips 5 min
Haven't emptied the kettle yet, but the anticipated SG is about 1.063. I am planning on diluting this down (higher efficiency than bargained for) to an OG of 1.045. Anticipated IBU is 20 after dilution.
We'll see how spruce-y this winds up. The tips are still pretty green now, so I could always "dry tip" [that sounds awful] if necessary.
