Hay this was touched on another thread and I think it might be interesting to see what kinda $$ we tend to spend on just the liquid/frementable part of things. The rest doesn't count... That's an INVESTMENT ;)

For me ....

Cyser 5 gal, 9% abv, $24.50 got a great deal on 5 kgs honey
Trad Sweet meads, 2- 1 gals, still going, 13 % and crawling along, sg 1.06, $38.74
Cranberry melomel, 5 gal, 12% still going at 1.02, $72.25
Joes ancient orange, 1 gal, $18.00
Pilsener kit, 5 gal, $14.45

I'm just wondering if there are trends... e.g. Mels vs meths which will put you out more $$ ... What can I expect to pay out when making a sweet mead... Who's basement should be raided first you know that sort of thing.

P.S. my figures are all in Canadian dollars

It seems like Metheglins would be cheaper than anything that required fruit by about the cost of the fruit. The costs for my first Metheglin were...

Citrus Fruit $2.78
5 gallons bottled water $2.90
1 1/2 gallons honey $37.50 (Orange Blossom)
Spices $2.00
2 pkgs. yeast $1.60

for a total of $46.78 (in US dollars) for a 5 gallon batch after racking twice...

I will dig out info on the other batches and post them later...

Sorry Fellas... but My artesian Well access is on the old farm... my folks's. I'm from Washington State... we do alot of fruit farming, orchards, vinyards & Hops in the Valley here. Got relatives who farm.
So perhaps at the moment the fruit is free, but they all expect a bottle of mead or two when it's ready. So, really, cost is minimal.
