Thanks to GotMead, I believe I'm ready to start submitting samples for competition. Most of these competitions have really detailed instructions for submission. However, my questions mainly focuses on the Mazer Cup. Have any of you ever submitted samples to the Mazer cup and if so, what was your experience? Lastly, I'd love to submit samples but I don't think that I could be present for the competition. Does one have to be present to be a contestant?

We have over 900 entries or so each year. And maybe 50 people there have entries there. If you are there. The staff does a great job and you get your scores and/or trophies the night of the award ceremonies. Otherwise, they send out your score sheets. So you don't have to go. But it's tons of fun. Volunteer as a steward and you will learn tons. And of course, lots of stuff gets poured during the nights. Better yet. Take the test to become a judge. We always need more judges

Anybody know if MeadFreeOrDie and the Texas Mead Fest are still happening? Googling for web sites seems just to bring up old stuff (2019), pre-Covid.

Thanks man. I'm not sure I have the time off in 2022 but I'll make sure to be there for 2023. Although my palate has improved from when I first started, I'm not sure it's quite judge material yet. I'd love to eventually get my taste buds to that level. Any recommendations on how to develop that skill? What's the judge tests like?
