Black Sambucha, Ever Tried It?

The other day, my Uncle asked me if I'd like a shot of Black Sambucha, I said I didn't know what it was, he told me it was Black Liquorice Whiskey, or something along those lines. Now, being a HUGE black liquorice fan, I said ok, I took a sip just to see, and it had the burn of whiskey, however it had NO taste of alcohol AT ALL, it tasted EXACTLY like black liquorice. It was by far the tastiest shot I've ever had.

How about you guys, ever tried it?

never tried it myself, i'm not a big black liquorice fan, though partial to jager,
what i do know is that sambucha is is a very thick drink, and one of the flaming spirits, e.g. it burns easily
the combination of those two factors makes it perfect for the party favorite, the statue of liberty shot,
dip your finger in the shot, light it on fire, pound the shot, and blow out your finger
things to note, i wouldn't try this with any other spirit, as most flaming spirits are much more fluid, and there is nothing like a hand full of fire to ruin a shot
2nd, make sure that shot is fully swallowed before you blow, unless your trying to spit fire balls...
 
LOL, that sounds kinda scary, but kinda cool at the same time! Just make sure not to blow it out in my direction! :angryfire: HAHA

It has an ABV of 40%! So the flammable part doesn't suprise me hehe.

BTW, i've always thought that INFLAMMABLE makes no sense in the way its used, because wouldn't that be the same as INVULNERABLE meaning you AREN'T vulnerable, or it ISN'T flammable?
 
We used to make "Slippery Nipples" out of the Black Sambuca and Bailey's. A little Bailey's in the bottom of a shot glass, topped with the Black Sambuca. Had a nice flavor, and a heck of a kick.

I've heard of Slippery Nipples, but I didn't know that they were made with Black Sambucha. YUMMAGE! :cheers:
 
According to the dictionary, "Flammable" and "Inflammable" are interchangeable, because the 'in' part didn't come from the Latin negative, but a Latin preposition. :confused2: (confused yet?) It does, however, make a note that since it does confuse people (such as myself), that warnings should only be labeled "Flammable." :angryfire:
 
yes,, and white as well. it is more of a liquere. it is great in espresso coffee... ;)
 
Sorry, been away for awhile. That is interesting lily, and it does make sense lol. As to smurf's add-in, white? Are you meaning white sambucha or white russian style?
 
Black sambuca is one of my favorite liquors that i dont make yum!!!!

i heard it might be black instead of the white sambuca cause it has coffee in it... i dont know if thats true tho. its not made of licorse tho, that i do know - its anisette :happy10:

I made a licorse (sp) cordial once -- lol ( stick soup) and it tasted almost chocolate-ty in comparison.
 
I used to be addicted to the "white" or clear Sambuca. They are both great but it think I like the flavors better from the clear. Of course, it is properly served with 3 coffee beans to chew on per shot so I guess the black obviates the need for the beans? Every time I've tried the Black, I was beyond the point of participating in any rituals. Hell, for that matter, it was pretty rare that I would partake of the beans with the clear Sambuca! Just give me another shot Bartender!

And please note: Sambuca is distinct from Ouzo. Much more body and sweetness in the Sambuca. And Ouzo will give me a hangover like nothing else will.

I'm looking forward to Yo Momma's experiments in creating a mead based on licorice. I might even have to try one myself. I've played with licorice root, anise and star anise in my brewing journeys so I think I've got a fair chance at doing one of these as a mead.
 
Yes. Tried it, as well as made it.

There does seem to be White, Red and Black in the "Still Spirits" range. I've made all three, the white seems to be straight Sambuca, which is an aniseed flavoured liqueur of Italian origin. As far as I can taste, the "Red" is just coloured white, while the black one is basic sambuca with additional liquorise flavour/colour i.e. purple/black looking.

As for taste ? well it has a cloying/clinging herb/spice burn on the roof of the mouth, with the lingering flavour of Victory V lozenges or Aniseed flavour "Fishermans Friend lozenges (if you've tried either, you'll know exactly what I mean). It could easily be described as an "aquired taste", but IMO, it's excellent.

I'm not gonna bother making red or white again, just the black :cheers:
