I was wondering how many of our mead techniques would help in the brewing of beer. I'm about to try some beer kits and was wondering about aerating during twice daily during the first 3-5 days and then swirling the beer during fermentation afterwards.

Would this help with the beer fermentation as is dues the mead?

Additional aeration = not recommended .... keep in mind that beer ferments much faster than meads do, and wort is much more suseptible to oxidation than mead must is. With beer, one strong aeration prior to pitching your yeast is all you want to do. Gently swirling is another story ..... I have done that with several of the super-high gravity beers I've made in the past to keep the yeast in suspension and ensure complete fermentation.

Give yourself a lot more headspace. Beer fermentations are explosive compared to mead, and you don't want to have to clean the walls & ceiling. :o
