Normally grog(rum and water) (bar[please excuse the pun])tends to be regarded as the first ever widely mixed drink/grog. But there is one thing that predates it by a longshot, the braggot.
I think it would be a good idea to try and get the bartending world interested in this fact. It is rare to find something that beer will mix nicely with in a drink, and it's something every bar has available. And if bartenders can make a wonderful drink (that also happens to be the first drink ever?) with just one extra ingredient (mead) that would seem like a very good reason for them to stock that ingredient.
Just thought I'd put this out there in case someone has any bartending friends that they think would would like this idea.
Of course ale/beer back in the day was very differnet from the majority of beer today, but that's a one can overlook.
