Are there any benefits or disadvantages to using synthetic corks, or should I just stick with regular corks?

The advantage is {as far as ive read and tasted} that natural cork breaths. This is very notable in belgian bottled beers Like Omegagan Ive had this in both crown cap 12oz and corked ??oz {I think it was 24oz, standard size large format). The corked tasted much better. It was just recently actually at my brew clubs christmas bash that I had this larger format bottle. So even through these are corked with composit corks it breaths enough to taste it. It could be argued that its the larger voloume that changes the taste. I dont think this holds alot of wait though after all a 12oz bottle of water tastes like a 2.5 gallon bottle of water right!
