Hi, I started fermenting my first mead about a week and a half ago. I tried my best to sanitize everything, but fear something may have slipped by. My mead is happily bubbling away, but I dont know what it's supposed to look or smell like.

My questions are whether there is a way to tell if your batch is infected, and also if someone could try to give me a description of what it should look like (the foam at the top, in particular).

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

Sounds like a serious situation I reoommend kegging the batch immediately, and sending it to me (I'll pm you with my address) I'll be able to tell you what went wrong in about a year or so. ;D

Seriously though, just give it some time and you'll be good. The foaming is normal, that's how you know that the yeasties are working.

Relax and give it some time.

cheers,

Oskaar
