Between Jackson and Detroit
I just got the mead I ordered from Fox Hill. Yay! :) I decided to try theirs after they picked up some more medals at the Mazer Cup. Fast shipping, and well packaged.

I will post reviews here after I open them up and taste them with some other local mead makers.

Tried the "Special Reserve Mead" last night with my LHBC and the description on the bottle and website do a pretty good job of describing the product.

A semisweet mead (they call it offdry, between dry and semisweet) with some buckwheat, and that is "...aged heavily in oak for a long period of time."

Tried it at about room temperature, or about seventy degrees. The buckwheat stands out throughout but is not overpowering, and the oak is nicely present, which huge vanilla notes on the backend. Tasted bourbon like notes, which were probably suggested by the oak and honey. or maybe the oak barrel was a used bourbon barrel?

While I prefer my meads a little sweeter this is a very drinkable and nicely complex mead.

I got to stop by the meadery on our cross-country trip. We did like the Special Reserve mead, and really everything was pretty good. Hope you like the rest!

Opened up the bottle of Traditional Mead. The website says that this a combination of several honey varieties, aged in oak, semisweet. It does indeed have a nice complex nose, and tastes very nice at the start, but it surprisingly had very little back end taste. It was a little disappointing as it has such a wonderful front end with oak, vanilla, and honey flavors, but then nothing. Was serving it about 70F and they recommend 50-60F but I don't see that being the case of this.
