Greetings All!!
I just wanted to send you all a message letting you know that the IKBG has been put on the official schedual for this years War.
The date will be Sunday, August 13th at 3.00 in AS 14. If you are a Master, any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Last year we had over 70 entries. We would like to get as many Masters as possible to help out. If we can get enough of you to come spend the afternoon we can divide out the categories and get through everyone in a timely fashion. What worked well last year was to divide up as follows: cordials, meads, wines, light beers, dark beers. This means we need 3 judges for each category. Please let me know if you can help out.
We are limiting each entrant to two entries per division (cordials, wine/mead, beer) You may only submit scores for two entries per event so it is up to you to pick your best stuff. If there is time at the end of the competition and judges want to stay and chat with an entrant about another entry that is up to them. If you score better on that extra entry and you want that to count, then you must remove the entry they are replacing from the competiton. (See me directly to get your score sheet). You may then take that sheet with you, but you must understand that it WILL NOT be put into the database. If you would like judges to taste extra stuff (if the judges want to stick around) for as many comments and pointers as you wish you may, but it will not count twards your guild status.
To the best of my knowledge, the database is current and up to date with guild status as well as entry information. If you see a need for a correction, please shoot me an email and let me know so I can fix it before War. The website is located here: http://www.greydragon.org/ikbg/
Remeber that YOU are responsible for the condition and presentation of your entry. It may be quite a while until a judge gets to your entry. If that entry needs to be kept cold, then it is up to you to bring a cooler for it to be stored in until it's turn at the table.
All entrants are welcome to stick around and wait for thier entries to be judged. Often we like to have the brewer at the table with us if there are any questions. Untill you are called (if we have questions) you are welcome to hang out and chat with other brewers- we just ask that you try to keep the noise level down a bit so the judges can do thier work. It takes several hours to get through everyone so please be patient. You are also welcome to drop an entry off and come back later to pick it up. Any bottles that are not claimed at the end of the competition will either be thrown out when we do clean up or go home with a judge if it was great.
Remember, you need to provide documentation for your beverage!! This includes a minimum of your process and recipie (including amounts of ingreedients). It's sad to see someone loose points because they didn't provide this information- especialy if that entrant could have been Master quality work. 10 points is alot to throw away. You may provide period documentation for that extra point, but it's not mandatory. Also remember that presentation is worth 10 points. I can guarentee you that you will be marked down if you present a wine/mead in a Grolsh bottle or have a plastic champagne cork. Little things like a nice lable help too. We realise that most of you have traveled a fair distance to get to War, but please take the time to do your entries appropriate to type for the competition and put them in a safe place. For those providing period documentation, please be expected to leave a copy with a judge to take home (you are not required to make copies for all). Some of you do wonderful research and a judge may want to keep it!
If you can, please print off the judges sheet ahead of time and type out all the pertinant information. (Also located at the above link. Please note that in the category of mead/wine- "Aroma" has been combined with "Bouquete" and will be replaced with "Freedom from off odors") I'm the one that has to enter everything after War and some peoples handwritting is pretty illegible (sorry). If I can't read it, then I cant give you propper credit for your entry or will have it entered wrong. Please make sure you provide a valid email address. If I have any questions on your information I need to be able to get ahold of you. You will not be put on any mailing lists so don't panic about getting "spammed". All your personal information is purely for administrative purposes and the only information posted on the website is your name (both SCA and mundane) and Kingdom. The rest is kept private and off line.
Masters please let me know if you can come help out so I can get a head count. Don't make me hunt you down and beg for your help. It isn't pretty.
