One of my favorite restaurants is in the process of adding a small micro-brewery to their offerings. They want to offer 6-8 beers, the same number of wines.....maybe more, and a few mead. Now the interesting part, the owners have samples some of my wines and mead and have expressed interest in bringing me on board with their licensing. I've explained I am merely a newbee to wine and mead making, but they've loved everything I've let them sample and want more! Has anyone else been able to turn a hobby into additional income, advise/pitfalls/etc. The restaurant has said they will take care of licensing and all....but I would get my name on the label.

Sounds like a great opportunity to me. Even if things don't work out, it may give you a taste of the business so you can decide if it is worth your own investment.

That's frigging awesome, man. Especially if they're willing to take care of the paperwork. If you take it, I hope it works out well for you! And if I were you I'd be going through the rest of the Mead Industry Forum entries, some of the guys who are living the dream have been very open about everything involved.

Thanks everyone for your replies, the owners aren't looking to go large scale, as it it a smaller place...but they wish to offer something different than currently available nearby...anybody can pop a cork off of wine or uncap a bottle, but micro-brew, winery, meadery sounds so intriguing. It wouldn't be something I'd be able quit my current job to do full time, but as Chevette Girl said, self-sustaining hobby would be great or maybe a few dollars more. We shall see what time unfolds....now to get this ginger mead bottled and over to them for a sample!
