Never actually done this, but poached pears are usually made with wine or brandy, so you should be able to substitute in a mead or meth. easily. Seems like it would taste even better than with wine.
4 pears, peeled
1 cup water
1/4 cup dry mead or metheglyn
peel of 1/4 lemon
(omit the following if using metheglyn)
1 whole clove
1/2 cinnamon stick
Place all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Simmer, covered, until the pears are al dente (tender-crisp). Remove the fruit & separate into serving dishes; pour syrup over.
