I picked up 12 gallons of fresh pressed sweet cider today from my local cider mill, and the clerk told me that there is a new $3,000 test that needs to be done on artisan ciders. She said it doesn't effect wine, just cider.
Anyone hear about this?
Seems expensive .... that adds a lot of money to the price of a bottle when you are doing runs of less than say 1000 gallons....

Just moved to Albany and excited to try experimenting with some of this NYS cider and some honey! Any good (read cheap?) honey providers you know of in the area? I wonder if this new fee has to do with the "bumper crop" I've heard about from this past fall. NY with their taxes... sheesh.

On Rt.14 near Himrod NY is a small local stand, and on Rt. 14A just north of Dundee NY is another local stand. I have not had their honeys and do not know the costs.
We 'grow 'our own honey for personal use so I haven't been looking for more.
Good luck and welcome to the Capitol District? Do you get to see our Governor often? I have a few words I'd like to give him!

Is this a Federal thing or a NY state thing?
