I am new to meads, and had only tasted a fairly dry one from california several years ago.
After being directed to this site while playing poker on line, I caught the bug big time. Since it will be months before my own meads and melomels are ready,I decided to try a bottle of Sky River semi-sweet that I found for$11.99 at a new seasons market in Portland ,OR.
Sky River is bottled in Sultan Washington( near Stevens Pass)They have limited distribution, see www.skyriverbrewing.com .
To my uneducated palate it was quite nice and met my expectation of what mead would taste like. At first smell and taste it was slightly reminiscent of apple cider and then settled into moderatly sweet honey goodness. I wanted another glass.
Alcohol is 10.5%
 
I tried a bottle of of this mead yesterday. It has the lightest straw color, being similar to a white wine. It made me wonder what honey they use.

Mine was chilled, and it left the aroma being almost nonexistent. It improves some as the temp warms up and I too pick up apples and pears. It is very light on the palate, and it mild sweetness on the attack followed by a mild acidity across the back of the tongue. I think I might have liked it to be just a little sweeter, and I'll have to give their sweet mead a try. The finish was pretty dry, and had an odd flavor that I have trouble describing, but I wasn't thrilled with it.

This is mead is light is aroma, flavor and color, and when chilled would probably be okay as a summer sipper. But it doesn't knock my socks off.

They mix their honey before every batch, to try and get it as identical as possible to previous batches.

I like Sky River's meads a lot. They're not spectacular, but they're simple, easy to drink, and worth their money.
