So a friend of mine entered three of my meads in a competition over the weekend...

...and I think the friends who were present were trying to surprise me with the results... but you know how Facebook is :p, secrets are no such thing.

Apparently my spiced blackberry JAO variant took first place of 19 submitted meads, including submissions from a couple of established meadmakers :) I think the only part people were disappointed with was that I didn't submit more for, uh, continued sampling...

I'll post the judges' sheets when I receive them. My "agent" also made some trades for me too, I'll post tasting notes on those too.

I certainly wasn't expecting to win! I just wanted some objective tasting notes. Guess I better get my poop in a group next year and get some to the Mazer Cup, huh?

 
I was at said competition, and while not a judge, was serving as a "backup liver", and hence got to taste all 19. The consensus among my friends was that ChevetteGirl's was one of the best - I think we all agreed on the top three, and those three were the same that took the top spots by the judges ranking. IIRC, the other two in the top three were a cinnamon metheglin and a caramel mead that may or may not have been a bochet.

So, congrats, CG - you earned it!

Heh, certainly not all of them. Not even most of them. My Aikido Sensei always tells us to make lots of mistakes, big glorious mistakes, it's how we learn best... and I've definitely done that with winemaking! :)


And Esys, I kind of did that before the competition, had to make sure I wasn't sending anything gross. Even had a surprise, something I'd hated for about five years finally got really nice.
