Decided to go over to Frecon Farms in Boyertown, PA to do some taste testing of Stonekeep Meadery Mead and Melomels.
Started out with the Traditional Mead. Very tasty. Light and slightly dry.
Then tried the Strawberry Melomel. Nice body and pretty sweet. (which I like)
Then tried the Blueberry. Very light hints of Blueberry. Slightly dry but very nice.
A friend that went with me wanted to try the Elderberry but they were out.
As we were discussing their meads in the parking lot, a lady pulled up and began unloading cases of mead from the back of her vehicle. (Including Elderberry)
I believe her name was Sharon. She is one of the owners of Stonekeep. Awesome (I go to taste their mead and ended up meeting one of the owners). She was very nice and very informative and very willing to answer any questions that I had.
Overall it was a great day of tasting.
I purchased a bottle of the Traditional and my friend purchased a bottle of the Traditional and the Elderberry.
I am no expert, but in my opinion you can't go wrong with their mead.
I am sure I will be headed back in the near future to buy some more.
 
Thanks for the info, I might just take a trip there in a week or so. I have never had a commercial mead (or anyone else's other than mine for that matter), would be nice to have a base line to compare to.
 
I was at a Wine Expo in Bethlehem, Pa. today and tried Stonekeep for the first time. I had never heard of them despite being only 40 minutes from where I live.
As mentioned above, they were very informative and nice.
I tried their strawberry, black currant and blueberry melomels. All were fantastic. I bought a bottle of the strawberry and black currant. The black currant was semi-dry and easily the best dry mead I have tried so far (although I have not had many dries yet). All had a nice crisp and fruity flavor. It looks like they keep their meads at 12% ABV. It definitely works for them, as they are lighter and not too sweet. I definitely recommend them. Good mead and good people. I will be visiting them in the future.
