The current status of the Calontir Brewer's Guild

Although the Kingdom of Calontir has a number of very talented brewers, the Brewer's Guild here is almost non-existent. We have a mailing list which is exercised a couple of times a year to request donations of our wares for various events.

I am also a Ward to House deLondres of the East Kingdom, which is a brewing household in a kingdom with a very active brewing presence. Hopefully over time, I can take the activities and ideas that make brewing in the East so vibrant and get them accepted in Calontir.

What brewing activities and ideas flourish in the East Kingdom that you might bring to the fine brewers of Calontir?

What brewing activities and ideas flourish in the East Kingdom that you might bring to the fine brewers of Calontir?

Well, the answer has at least two or three parts...

1. Things out of people's control that have a negative or positive impact.

2. Things about other places that create an environment in which a Brewer's Guild thrives.

3. Things Calontir does differently that result in a less effective Brewer's Guild.

I will compose some answers to each of these when I have time to do it properly. In the end I hope to help revitalize the guild in Calontir and so I want to state up front that the current state of affairs is not anyone's fault, but the by-product of a lot of things that have added up over time to create the situation we have now.

I hope that this issue can be discussed without angering anyone since I know that those serving in the guild do so with no compensation and little recognition. Those people, and in fact no one, is at fault. I believe much can be done to improve things but it will require some changes to the socio-political structure of the kingdom, which in itself may prove the bane of the improvements. Slightly unrelated question from a non SCA person...

The subheading for this forum includes "N. AK." My mind says this is Northern Alaska. What counts as Northern Alaska? Is Fairbanks (where I live) included in that?

Just wonderin'.

edit: Oh, I see from the SCA web site that that should be N. AR, or Arkansas.

I believe it should be northern Arkansas, which would be AR...

However, we will include you, at least individually, if you are willing to ship lots of samples for our review... *grin*

As you probably know, Fairbanks is part of the Barony of Winters Gate (http://www.geocities.com/winters_gate/) in the Principality of Oertha which is part of the Kingdom of the West.

We need to get more brewers posting in the West Brewing forum here.
