While on a recent trip to Ohio, I got some of this mead. My Review is as follows.
Valley Vineyards: “Honey Mead”
ABV: 12.5% Sweet/Dry: Very Sweet
Color: Light Gold Clarity: Crystal Clear
Aroma: Honey/Sweet Balance: Perfect
Tasting Temperatures: Chilled, Cool, Room Temp
Sulfites: Yes
Taste: Sweet, Heavy Front, Clear Clover
Comments: To me, this mead lived entirely in the front of the mouth. The mead starts by giving a nice sweet smell, and the taste follows through very soft and sweet. The honey flavor, and its clover-ness, are very distinct and are quite strong without becoming overwhelming or cloying. The flavor is all at the front, and does not change along the palate, as some styles of mead will do. I did however notice a little bit of an “apple juice” taste/feel on my lips after drinking each glass, but I would think this is due to the high sugar content in the mead. Some might think this meads flavor fizzles and has no “mid” or “back” palate tastes, but I like this mead as is. I am of the opinion that this mead is very well balanced in the fact that I could not detect any alcohol taste or burn when chilled or cool. At room temperature, I noted a little bit of alcohol burn, but not enough to undo the pluses of this mead. I did take an SG of this mead, just to be nosey, and it DEFINATELY qualifies as a sweet/desert mead. Good mead. (I bought 6 bottles)
