So on Saturday afternoon I set out to make my first batch 1gallon (4.5ltr) of mead.
My recipe was as follows
4lb local honey
4.5ltr spring water
5g mangrove jack M05 Mead Yeast (19% Alcohol tolerance)
2tsp yeast nutrient (as per instructions)
Dissolved honey in half of water in a sterilized pan
add honey and water to fermentation bucket
add rest of water
rehydrated yeast with 2tbs of the honey and water
Added rehydrated yeast to fermentation bucket
Added yeast nutrient
Stirred for about 10mins to aerate
Lidded and put airlock with water half filled.
Currently stored at room temp in a dark place.
So I was expecting a bubble rate of 1 every 30-60seconds after 24 to 48 hours, but I am not getting any at the moment. Am I being impatient?
My intentions are to allow 2 weeks for first fermentation and transfer via syphon to a glass carboy for 2nd fermentation for 8 weeks with a second racking at 4 weeks. Before bottling I will filter with a cheese cloth.
Thanks
