You absolutely MUST try the Bourbon Barrel Mead and the Pineapple Coconut Melomel if they have it.

Cheers,

Brad, I've checked your website a couple times, but I've never seen any indication of sweetness levels for the meads - do you have any dry ones?

Also, guess I should ask if it's possible to get in Canada!

Looks like the times have shifted and here is what they will have...

This Saturday, June 26th 2:00 - 6:00pm
B. Nektar Meadery was founded in 2006 by Brad and Kerri Dahlhofer, with the help of their good friend Paul Zimmerman. Brad has been an avid homebrewer since 1998, making beers, meads, ciders and wine for his own enjoyment. When Brad and Kerri got married in 2005, he made a mead to toast with at their wedding and received great reviews from the guests. Jokingly, he said that he'd someday open a meadery. Paul, a long-time friend and fellow homebrewer, soon began making meads along with Brad in the Dahlhofers' basement. Their meads quickly began winning awards at homebrewing competitions. B. Nektar makes meads that extend beyond the traditional honey wine. With so many varieties of honey, how could they not?

Open Saturday to Taste will be:
Wild Flower Mead
Orange Blossom Mead
Cinnamon Vanilla Mead
Wildberry Pyment Mead

I have to admit that I was VERY pleased with today's tasting. Both a wine tasting and B.Nektar tasting were occurring at the same time at Gilly's. The mead tasting was a "hive" of activity and the wine was barren. So that made me feel good.

So my wife and I tried all four meads. I have to admit that my favorites were the wildberry pyment (the tartness of the grapes with the sweetness of the honey was a nice complement), and the cinnamon vanilla ("tastes like an apple pie" per my wife) meads, for what we could actually buy.

Turns out after asking the guy who was serving if he had any bourbon barrel mead, he said that he had one 350ml bottle. I said that Brad told me to try it (sorry I HAD to use what I could to get some). GOOD LORD that was AMAZING!!! I honestly hope they get that one in the store!!

So my wife (who is from Ohio) actually wanted to buy a total of 6 bottles of mead from you Brad. She put aside the Ohio-Michigan rivalry because the meads were top notch!

Awesome work Brad and I hope our contribution helps bring more of your meads into Maryland!!

I'm so glad you liked them. The bourbon barrel is a particular favorite of mine. In Sept/Oct we have a Bourbon Barrel Cyser coming out that's been in the barrels for over a year. Also, look out for the Margarita Mead, due out in August.

I'm glad your wife could put the Michigan/Ohio thing aside. You can tell her that I didn't go to a college that even had a football team, so I should be neutral in her mind. :)

You know, I should put the sweet/dry meter on our website. thanks for the idea.

We do have some dry meads, but in smaller quantities and not on a regular basis. We're still working out some of our recipes for a regularly available dry mead. But I think it's going to be our Tupelo. Also, we just released a semi-dry Gewurztraminer Pyment.

Also, our Black Raspberry Melomel (also dry) won a silver medal in the Mazer Cup this year. We're planning on making a large batch (about 250 gallons) of that one later this year.

As for Canada. Just come over the bridge, 'eh? There's three to choose from. Kidding. I'm not sure about Canada yet. Not to say never, but there's so much involved with exporting. New states are already no fun to work through the red tape.

Cheers,

Brad

Ooooh, I was just planning a Gewurz pyment, how dry is semi-dry? I guess That would have enough acidity to stand up to a fair bit of sweetness anyways.

Tupelo is a lighter coloured honey right? That should be a nice crisp dry mead, I look forward to it.

That sounds great, my girlfriend would love this one I think.

I can imagine, exporting cannot be easy. I could always just drive down into Montana if there's a store somewhere that has it... it'd be like a vacation... but in Montana :p

Hey, while I'm at it I should also ask which clearing agennts you guys are using, I remember you mentioning that you did use some at one point, and my girlfriend is vegan, so half the clearing agents she has to stay away from.

Thanks for the info - I'll get my hands on some of this one way or another!
