A question regarding final gravity

In Chapter 7 of the NewBee Guide there is a scale of the commonly accepted final gravities for each level of dry/sweetness. Listed below.

Scale
Dry: 0.990 – 1.006
Medium: 1.006 – 1.015
Sweet: 1.012 – 1.020
Dessert: 1.020+

I assume this scale applies to pyments, cysers, melomels, etc. Is my assumption correct?

Well, things like acidity and tannin can effect how sweet something in any of those ranges tastes too, but I think yes, that is the generally accepted scale.

Being a lover of dryness, I have my own scale though ;):

Dry: 0.990 – 1.002 (that 2 is pushing it!)
Medium: 1.002 – 1.010 = hopefully has some acidity or this is too much for me.
Sweet: 1.010 – 1.020 = like drinking candy
Dessert: 1.020+ = I'm afraid of this range. :eek:

Take that with a grain of salt... or a handfull!

Why you just need a little acidity to work with. From prior batches, my orange marmalade melomel doesn't even begin to taste sweet until the gravity gets up to about 1.040-1.050.

;D Someday someone will convince me! Maybe I'll try tossing a pile of acid blend into the next bottle I open of something that finished sweet.
