I see... it was rather volcanic... So the TLA MEA is a subset of HSM, which was a cause of WTF and is now LOL. ;D
I was surprised to find it was short for Monoethanolamine, which has a chance from it's name of being involved iin brewing ;)

I'm thinking that your Mango MEA (MMEA, I suppose) happened because the fruit had both a large amount of sugar relative to its total volume, and lots of fruit fibrous bits to push up through the lock when fermentation re-started in secondary. Your berry batch didn't take off similarly most likely because there wasn't as much fermentable sugar in the berry fruit, and the pH also may have kept further fermentation in check.

Your JAO is still very young. Joe says rack when clear - and this one is less than a month old, so no surprise that it hasn't cleared yet. Give it more time.
<snip>

OK she's a month old today.
When can I expect her to start clearing. She's definitely stopped fermenting. The SG has stabilised. The bubbling has all but stopped.
The sediment is about an inch deep.
But it's still murky and the fruit still float.

I keep getting told to wait, I just want to know: for how long?

Alas - the clearing time (and ultimately the degree of clearing) are dependent on your choice of honey as well as everything else in the recipe. In most cases JAOs are pretty clear about a month after fermentation ceases, but in some stubborn cases they can take a lot (meaning several months) longer. Also in about one out of every 4 or 5 cases, the fruit seem to stubbornly float on for a long time. Nevertheless, if it is "reasonably" clear and the fermentation has been done for several weeks, you can rack the mead into other containers. Actually, sometimes the physical movement of mead from one vessel to another gets enough of those residual plant proteins (again, the amount of protein in there is highly dependent on your honey source) to coalesce and bind into compounds dense enough to fall out of suspension. So, racked meads often tend to clear faster.

OK thanks.
I'll wait another month before thinking about it again.
Cheers.

BTW all tastings so far of any mead have been 'watery', 'not that nice', 'perhaps a hint of lemon' and 'I can't taste any honey flavour'

Last night I racked the boysenberry mel. this time when I gave it to DW for her impressions, she said: 'mmm this is yummy, it tastes only of wine really, but it's nice. There's a hint of honey flavour when you exhale after drinking'

As this is a dry, and DW is a Spatlese Lexia girl, I am very excited!
Now to let it sit a while before I bottle and wait a year.
The flavours will reappear and the taste smooth out with time yes?
