Woohoo! Two calls, two wins! I could have gotten even more from the second store, but I don't need dozens of these guys (yet!)

3 different sizes, some that look about 2 gallon, some that look about 1.5-1.75 gallon, and some that are a bit over 4 gallon size (not quite as big as my 5 gallon). Will sharpie the outsides with measurements before I use them.

I just had to wash out all the icing and good to go! I got the worst of it out, they "look" clean now. They will still need scrubbed more though as I'm sure they are still full of icing grease/oil!

Thank you Kroger Bakery!

Thanks

I've seen that at my local HB shop, will check it out!

After checking the bottoms of my freebies this is what I got:

Three 2 gal
Three 2.5 gal
Two 4 gal

All with lids, all in great shape!

Apparently they order different colors / flavors of icing in different sized buckets per their volume of need. The 4 gallon buckets were standard 'cake white' icing, whereas the small 2 gallons were more exotic pinks and such.

Pricey but it works without the need to scrub.

I'm pretty partial to finding DIY solutions (at least I used to be) but I do have the hard water issue so, it's PBW for me.

Plus by the time I'm through getting all the ingredients the savings will have dwindled a bit (not sure how much...too lazy to do the math) A package of PBW is 10 bucks so I weigh the savings against time and not as good results and the fact that it "might" (probably not but) be a factor in ruining 30 bucks worth of honey.

HOWEVER...If I'm in dire need and can't get PBW it is nice to know there's an alternative at the local Home Depot!

After I leave WalMart with my new degasser I'm going to hit up bakeries for those buckets!

Actually, it would only cost me about $15 for 3 kg of that Lol.

But yea, for hard water, probably wouldn't work as well

Nice to know, I have a box of TSP under the kitchen sink. I add it to my dishwasher detergent because new dishwasher detergents don't work worth crap since they removed the phosphate from it.

So THAT'S why I have to rewash EVERY FREAKING GLASS....good to know. AMAZON! I NEED TSP! (I can't wait till those little drones drop off stuff at my door.) Note to self: Buy stock in drones.

You can also buy the little rubber o-rings that go into fermenting bucket lids if you are willing to drill holes in the lids of the buckets...done it myself to a couple of 5 gallon
honey buckets for spare fermenters...

If you have a water distributor in your area they usually carry 5 gallon glass carboys for 15 bucks, more than half the cost off from any wine/beer place around me.
