What they don't mention here is that Miljenko (Mike) Grgic's 1973 Chardonnay was one of the pivotal wines in that tasting, and it really put California's White Wines on the map. Mike is a Croatian guy from Croatia, and has in the past several years purchased an old lighthouse and the surrounding vineyards to produce some classic Croatian wines. Plavac Mali (PLAAH VAAHTS mall eee), a very robust, earthy and similar to Zinfandel in character and mouthfeel; and Posip (PO sheep) a wonderful white wine with lots of floral, fruity, citrusy body and nice tropical fruit and flinty finish.
