I'm taking a trip this weekend, and wouldn't mind stopping off if I know of any commercial meaderies between D.C. and Pittsburgh.

Any suggestions?
 
LOL... I'm taking exactly the opposite trip!

I'm hoping to try some of Laurel Highlands' stuff this weekend, although I'm not exactly sure where to find it.

If you find a meadery anywhere along the way, be sure and post about it here!

Piper's pub is your best chance, unless Matt has an holiday weekend events happening. Also, Arsenal Cider House is worth checking out. They brew mead as well, but they run out of it quickly. Check the opening times & maybe call first.

I discovered them this summer, and tried one of their ciders. Good stuff!

When I asked about their mead, (if I recall correctly), they said that it wouldn't be ready until the fall... and even then, they were taking all of it and blending it with their cider. :(

(Not that that's bad, 'cause cyser's good, but... i'd have liked to had a taste of their mead, straight up...)
 
If you find something good, let me know. We're in Lancaster now and will head toward DC in another week and a half.
 
Hopefully we, Clear Skies Meadery, will be up and running in the beginning of 2012 and have product on the shelves in the fall. We will be based in Gaithersburg, MD about 20 miles from DC.
 
There's a meadery in Frederick County, MD, northwest of DC. Orchid Cellars (orchidcellar.com). They do the local wine festival circuit. Some wineries produce a mead along with their other grape- and fruit-based offerings, but these folks are purely mead. They make a variety of Polish-style meads. I think they're quite tasty.
 
Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check out Orchid Cellars next time I come and visit. As for the trip we took, our mead that we brought was the only brew to get consumed :cool:
