are frozen fruits "sanitary"?

I'm looking to add fruit to some mead. I don't want to have to boil or pasteurize it, more for convenience than anything. (No-boil mead is so much faster than hours of standing over hot beer wort. :)) If I get a bag of frozen fruit, can I consider it "clean"? That is, if I throw some honey, water, and yeast at it, will it be ok? Or will there be some little bugs that survived the freezing process that will foul my mead-to-be?

In most cases you should be fine, but if you want to be extra cautious... wait, and rack onto the fruit in the secondary. This way the alcohol will likely kill anything the fruit might still be harboring.

I put together a 1-gallon batch of cherry mead using a 1-pound bag of frozen cherries that I bought at the grocery store.

It didn't have any bugs (bacteria) in it.

Unless of course, those bugs were the things that made me feel weird in my head and caused me to talk funny after drinking a few glasses in a row. ;D

It was good stuff, that's for sure. :D

And I'll be doing it again, too.
