My elderly rescue hound loves beer, has discerning tastes (his favorite is Guinness), but embarrased me once on a walk -- there was an empty Bud light bottle on the sidewalk, he caught a whiff and started making his licking his chops sounds meaning he wants BEER!

I've had my sister's two dogs since November and they LOVE brewing days. They lick up every drop and would lap it out of the bucket if I let them. Especially the beer.

My old dog could drink a full 12" shaped pint glass of beer without knocking it over. There was never a single half full glass the next morning after any party.
Plonk is an expression for cheap table wine.
The "taint" they are referring to is primarily cork taint. This is an odor that ruins wine due to a substance know as 2,4,6-trichloroanisole (TCA). There can also be other "taints" from spoilage organisms which a hound's sniffer might be able to pick up quite well.
