Hi

Newbie hear. Working on my second mead, a Blueberry Mead. I've read where some people add ingredients in the secondary to bring out the flavor. I'm thinking of separating my 1 gallon test batch into 2 smaller half gallon test batches. Was looking for some advice.

Recipe

- 1 gallon filtered water boiled
- 2 1/2 points honey (about 28 fluid oz) - added to warm water to dissolve
- 2 lb frozen blueberries brought to room temp
- 1/2 tbs yeast nutrient
- 1/2 tbs yeast energizer
- 1/2 tbs pectic enzyme
- 1 packet yeast EC-1118
- Initial gravity 1.092
- End Gravity 1.0
- ABV about 13%

Experiment #1
Take half a gallon of the mead and mix with Blueberry juice. This stuff is straight blueberry juice and water.
So my question is for a half gallon of mead, how much blueberry juice should I add (8, 16, or 32 oz)? Should I make sure the yeast is dead first by either campden tablets or cold crashing the mead first? How long should I let it sit before bottling?

Experiment #2
Take half a gallon of the mead and mix with more frozen blueberries.
So my question is for a half gallon of mead, how much blueberrys should I add (quarter pound, half pound)? Should I make sure the yeast is dead first by either campden tablets or cold crashing the mead first? How long should I let it sit before bottling?

Also, if you have any recommendations on improving my recipe, that would be appreciated.

I'm going to make a similar attempt with cherries.

Thanks
