Hello everyone!

I've been a professional beer brewer for a few years, and recently have develop a passion for mead making, and in doing so, would love to transition over to the meadmaking industry! Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to go about doing something like this?!

Thank you so much! You all provide some awesome information ;D

Eric,

I don't have any first hand experience but I know a few here do. From what I do know though, you're basically going to be going through the same process as opening a winery. You've got to get all of your federal, state, and local approvals for producing, bottling and selling wine/mead.

I know that's not a lot of info but hopefully it will point you in the right direction...

Oops, may have come across wrong! Opening a meadery is down the road possibly, but this more about working for one professionally, getting my hands dirty and learning the industry!

Not sure many meaderies would be hiring full time staff as they are pretty small...perhaps keep an eye open at the larger, growing commercial operations. i would think doing some work at a winery would also help since it has to be set up as a winery for TTB purposes. Where are you located? I think the fastest growing meaderies atm would be B. Nektar (Detroit) and Moonlight Meadery (Londonderry, NH). Larger wineries that also make mead may also be a place for you to look.

Thank you! You bring up a very good point. I'm located in the Northwest. I will look into those bigger meaderies!
