Meh, when you consider what's in or on some of the fruit we use? Drop in the bucket.

And the sulphites will kill anything exciting.

I've had three fruit fly infestations and the first one turned out to be one of the best ones I'd made up to that point. I ran it through a wine filter before bottling, just like I will do with the other two batches that got fruit flied last year (I strained them as soon as I found out where the little @#$ers were coming from)...

If you generally practise good sanitation, then if something happens, it's far less likely to be horrible than if there are already loads of other nasties in there just waiting...
 
I wouldn't know where to start... What kind of wine filter do you use for this? DIY or something purchased?
 
Oh, no, just because of that batch, I bought a little Buon Vino wine filter. I don't often use it because it's a pain to use, wastes a bit of wine (significant when you do a lot of one gal batches), is a pain to clean, and I'm lazy, I'd rather leave stuff in carboys for a year to settle out.
