Up to this point we have been buying a lot of our chemicals, yeast, nutrients through the two/three LHBS. We're getting to the point where it's not cost effective to buy 25 individual packs of yeast or .25# bags of Go-Ferm. (We want to support the local economy so we will support however we can, where it makes sense.) We buy some things from LD Carlson but they don’t seem to have exactly what we want like Fermaid-K, Fermaid-O, etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good place to buy large, but not insane amounts of items? I don’t have a problem buying a 10KG bag of Fermaid-K, but can't see buying a 50# pail of DAP or 50# of Go-Ferm. I've also bought a few things from More Wine, but they seem to be pricey on some of the items.

Any thoughts are appreciated.
Matt

piwine.com has some larger sizes, but no Ferm-O. I'd be interested to know a place that sells Ferm-O in sizes above 80 grams. The most I've found is 80 grams from Midwest.

I havent ordered anything from them... yet...but I did find these guys while doing some recearch around the beggining of last month for a project I'm working on. Might be worth checking into?
scott labs

I get fermaidk in 1lb bags from a place that advertises on eBay, I think he does DAP as well but don't recall fermaidO. I'll post a link as soon as I get to my PC, as I don't have the info on my phone......... I think its called nashwood winery in California somewhere......

scott labs ..... you can buy yeast and nutrients and most mead making ingredients from them in sizes ranging from 500 g to 10 kg bags of yeast, 1 or 2.5 kg for things like fermaid k , o or go ferm. also you can buy awesome enzymes , fining agents, yeast nutrient items like opti red and white, tannins and even equipment. check out their fermentation handbook on there website. it wont have prices but shows what sizes they sell for an item.

I'm very curious about trying the Level TD, would like to try that with a traditional and a fruit mel. Has anyone tried that yeast?

Matt - Midwest Supplies sells Fermaid-O in 80g bags...not the most cost effective (going to Scott Labs would be) but that particular nutrient I can't justify the bulk purchase. I've primarily used Scott Labs, LD Carlson, and PI Wines as other have mentioned.

Good Luck!

Just a heads up, if your expecting to get 1 big bag from midwest supplies when you order the 80gram bag it may be hit or miss. I ordered one several weeks ago and it was delivered broken down into much smaller bags. I think it was about 12 bags i received lol.

We get our Fermaid, and GoFerm from Scott Labs.
DAP we used to get from Davison Winery Supplies, but I feel like we switched lately for some reason. Can't remember.

Those nutrients last a VERY VERY long time, so if you think you're going to use them over the course of a few months, or even a year, save some money and get them in bulk. Shipping is cheaper per gram/kilogram too.
