to get my girl into handguns.

After a 3 hour safety and shooting course & an hour of private instruction. She was shooting 5 shot 1/2" groups with a 1911A1 .45 acp.

Makes me proud

Yes, that reminds me of my good friend Faye's experience at the shooting range when she went to renew her gun license. She was the only woman present. The instructor told everyone, "Pretend the target is your mother-in-law - oops, sorry, Ma'am, just a joke." Faye, having more class than that, serenely ignored him, and ignored him also when he cautioned her not to be frightened by the noise. She hit the bulls-eye every time, and had all the guys clustered around her asking, "Show me again how you did that...?"

She says that her excellent hand-eye coordination comes from her lifetime hobby of sewing.

She should do a class on urban warefare: Weapons of massive destruction! LOL

I used to teach a hand-to-hand combat course at Cal State Fullerton and we did the "urban warefare" classes about four times a year on how to use common household items in a pinch. Coathangers, belts, frying pans and the cords from phones were especially brutal. Knitting needles, fireplace pokers, bath towels and expensive designer pump high-heels were in there as well.

cheers,

Oskaar

You left out the tank lid from the toilet and the cat.

Pick the cat up by the scruff, givem a good shake before sticking them in the intruders face. Once the cat has grabbed hold, pull it towards you until the claws are just about to the lips then let go.

Gives a whole new meaning to cat hat.

Don't forget my personal favorite the Dobie-O-Matic. Load up your Doberman into this giant sized slingshot and let fly when your opponent charges you through the front door. Nothing like a facefull of pissedoff Dobie flying into your face! Cats, pit-bulls, porcupines, Portuguese Man'o Wars, it's all good.

HEH HEH HEHHEHEHHEHEHHHGGGHHhh

Never though about it, but a pissed off porcupine could be a lot of fun for a home invader.

I still prefer the 870 Remington.

Demented as ever,

maybe you could fling something like this at them...

Ni! Ni!

Gee thanks, Oskaar. ;) Had to nip off and watch the movie. Though I did hit pause a couple of times to help with the heavy lifting as my wife heated her first batch.

What was the distance, Dmntd? I did not do that good when I took the CPL course when I lived in Michigan.

By the way guys I love the other suggestions like the cat, doberman, porcupine, and Trojan Rabbit. I love that movie. I, however, prefer my Glock 20.

NeedMead,

While I am a big fan of the Trojan Rabbit, I admit he's really only good for defending your castle from silly English k-nig-its. A Smith & Wesson Airweight resides in my nightstand for anyone not in chainmail. Stoked up with MagSafe's it'll make ugly holes in people, but wont punch through walls, a major consideration in a townhouse.

Have owned glocks over the years (9mm, 40, compact .40), and it's the best (read: simplest) semi-auto I've ever played with. No bells and whistles to trip you up under stress. Best safety ever--dont touch the trigger, it dont go BOOM.

Regards,

Michael

3 Yards.

Dmntd, that STINKS! >:( I did not shoot that good without hours of practice for several days. Women are not supposed to shoot better than men. JK LOL

Maelduin, I have to say that the English k-nig-its are more annoying than flies.* However for those more molevolent home crashers I have 180 grain federal Hydra-Shok in 10mm waiting. they will go in, but not come out.

*(JK not meant to offend any Englishmen)

On women shooters...
My grandmother still tells stories of when she was a young girl growing up in a military family. Her Dad was responsible for Establishing and Commanding new Army Bases, including, I think, the first one in Alaska. She says that they used to have a firing range INSIDE their house, from front to back as the hallway was a straight shot. During practice their mother would have to signal with a flag for them to stop so she could cross the hallway. :o

One story she related was that a couple of GI's (who were bragging about their own marksmanship) took my grandmother and her sister (both still in High School) out to the military shooting range on a double date, the girls marksmanship put both the GI's to shame. She said the GI's were so embarrassed they were never asked out by them again.

As far as her claim of her father having an indoor target range I'd believe it, my grandmothers house in madison right now has indoor target practice for using high power german air rifles, and it's been set up there for at least as long as I've been alive.

I used to practice with my moms single shot 22 long rifle (no scope) and consistently make head shots at 100+ yards. I haven't done any shooting since 1984, and I know my eyes aren't good enough to pull that off anymore. Still get an itchy trigger finger sometimes and feel like shooting something.

Cool story Wrathwilde,

I've known a couple people over the years who've had an indoor range in their home, one was a former club brother.

My friend who instructed hope, has said for years women typicaly make better. marksmen. Partialy due to somewhat better hand eye coordination, but mostly owing to the fact, they listen to then follow instruction and having nothing to prove.

Seems to me. Shooting is much the same as playing pool or throwing darts, most anyone can learn and with enough practice get good at it, then there are those it comes naturaly for.

I hadn't been shooting in about six years when we went to the range, I was amazed at how badly I shot. Rich (the instructor) looked at my first target and shook his head, saying we both know you shoot better then this.

What I learned, it's a perishable skill.

Don't really want to go shooting 3 or 4 days a week like I use to, but for a while once a week is in order.

I have lousy coordination. :'( When I lived in a part of Jerusalem that is surrounded by Arab villages, I considered getting a license for a rifle - figured a hand gun would do me no good if someone (or some two or three) tried to break in. My Dad, when I asked him what he thought, took a long look at me and said,

"Get a shot gun. All you have to do is point, and pull the trigger."
