You wouldn't believe what history channel does over here...no history! Pawn shows, ice road truckers, and stupid stuff. You'd think there was no history in Europe!

Well, when y'all get really bored, had too much mead to drink, and need to just sit and fall asleep to something, you can sit and stare at me mead collection while listening to my radio show at jamesdwebb.com. You'll find the radio link in the right, just below the webcam. And is you're really bored, you can join me on the show if you have Skype. We can talk about whatever we want, mead, wine, ciders, auto mechanics, sex, over-age drinking, eating habits, barn dancing, whatever. You just need to know when to catch me live is all. Usually in the evenings, around 7:30-8 pst.
It ain't just on your side of the Atlantic. I get more science from SyFy than from the Science Channel. CNN shredded their science section years ago and folded it in with "Technology", which is basically what the cool new app is for the kewl new cell phone, and as much as it galls me, I get better/faster science coverage from <gasp> FOX News than from Scientific American. For now, at least, they're leaving out the illustrations of cavemen riding dinosaurs.
Real Housewives, Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, etc. seems to be all the public at large is interested in (and yes, I said "at large". I know there will always be people like a lot of us who have a yen for history or science or whatever that can't/won't be placated by the pabulum the execs like to see put out).
Is it just me, or is even the reboot of COSMOS a pale imitation of the original? I mean, we know so much more than we did when the original COSMOS was made, you'd think that there'd be more to put out there. I mean, there's (yeah, you knew it was coming) billions and billions of things to talk about.
National Geographic gives more history (but less geography) over here. Weird, esp when you see show times for Istanbul and Budapest.
Each channel has different "areas" that are run by completely different people. So whoever is VP of programming in LatAm for example, will choose programming that completely differs from the VP of programming in say, Europe.
