Does mead break down quicker than wine?

If anything, traditional meads seem to hold up better than wine after being opened. Very few wines will be drinkable 1 week after being exposed to air (though I recently tried a Priorat from Spain that was so heavy with tannin that it was better after 3-4 days than at the time of opening, and was good at 1 week).
On the other hand, I have enjoyed several dry and sweet traditional meads that have been opened for more than two weeks. Most of the melomels I have tried tend to deteriorate like wine. So it does depend on the type of mead.
