Tonight I made up a batch of hard cider; as follows:

4 gallons fresh cider from Blake's cider Mill, Armada MI (SG1.045)
50/50 mix of turbinado sugar & light brown sugar to raise SG to 1.070
White Labs WLP775 English Cider Yeast
1 tsp. Nutrient
1 tsp energizer

Another batch of either cyser or cider will be starter within 2 weeks as well, just need to get more carboys!

I wonder how that yeast will compare to K1V with apples... is it actually going to be $5 per batch better? (my 2 min internet search suggests this yeast comes in a vial)

Did you make a starter for it or do you just toss it in?

I just tossed it in, will check for activity tonight. Used this yeast after tasting my bro in laws cider the other night. According to the suggestions, 1.070 was the highest recommended starting gravity for this yeast without doing a starter, and yes it is a liquid vial.

One point I did notice in many of the reviews of this yeast was the mention of the retaining of the apple flavor by a few users.

A nice vigorous ferment is in progress on the kitchen counter, going to add nutrient tomorrow morning. I had a concern with one characteristic that was mentioned with the WLP775 yeast, that being foul or sulphuric smells. Well, thankfully nothing but pleasant apple orchard like aromas!
