Homebrew webiste/forum for beer

Anyone know of a good website/forum for homebrewing beer. I would like a website with information, recipes, and help for the newbie, much like this website. :notworthy:

Thank you for an amazing and addictive website. I have two batches of mead in the works and I am planning a third.

Northern Brewer is where I got my homebrew start, they have mead and wine forums but I would say that the beer sections are far more active. Worth a look.

As far as a standalone website, check out How To Brew by John Palmer. The entire content of his book is there and it's all free. Easy to understand and follow. Quite detailed too.

Both Ratebeer and BeerAdvocate have decent homebrewing forums with some knowledgeable people (mixed in with a few wankers and know-it-alls that are usually wrong :laughing7 . Neither one is strong on recipes but RateBeer does have a few decent ones.

But neither one is as helpful or as informative as this site. As a matter of fact, there are quite a few of us here that make beer as well as mead, do you have any specific questions? We do have a board dedicated to beer. Ask away. Fermentation gets in your blood and it's hard to limit the passion to a single choice of sugars!

homebrewtak.com is a heavily trafficked site that does provide a lot of help to new brewers. It does not have as much content as this site but the discussions are very active and I have found many of the members to be very helpful.
howtobrew.com is a great only line book about the basics of brewing and a great place to get started.

Homebrewtalk and Northern Brewer seem to be the most active and the ones I frequent. If you are interested in brewing Belgian Style ales, especially lambics and other bug beers, check out the Burgundian Babble Belt. Also, +1 on the Palmer site, and make sure you do your homework on learning the techniques.

The Brewing Network has a forum and also lots of radio shows (podcasts I suppose they call them now). The archives go back a couple of years. They have shows dedicated to each style of beer (Jamil show) plus general beer shows (Sunday show). They're kind of goofy and fun to listen to, and you'll also pick up some good tips and recipes there.

I agree with wildaho, definitely check out John Palmers site (How To Brew)...I know several homebrewers (including myself) that learned a great deal from his work...he explains the easier stuff like extract brewing and then gets into the more complicated all grain, he even covers brewing metallurgy, chiller construction and how to properly use a hydrometer. I found it so helpful I actually bought the book.

The site also has a link to search for your local home brew store...mine has been an incredible source of information, and they are always ready to help. When I decided to try my first all grain, the owner actually loaned me his spare mash tun before I built my own. They also have monthly meetings with a different style covered at each meeting which includes a tasting. :drunken_smilie:
