how risky is it?

Hi all, im back :) (school has been killer)

So my mead is most definatly tainted, and has some white waxy looking things that grow ontop, and a slightly odd smell.

I plan on starting over, as sad as it makes me, but was wondering how risky it would be to try and sample some of the lower levels of the mead? i dont think i want to bottle a tainted batch, but as long as it wont kill me i wouldnt mind finding out if any of it is still tasty.

i know its a bad idea, but what can i say, i need someone to talk me out of it ;)
 
Slide your racking cane all the way to the bottom and rack some out until you have about two inches of mead left below the surface. Taste it, and if it tastes good, put an airlock on it and let it ride.

So its possable to salvage this? and better yet, deciding involves tasting? i like where this is going!
 
Right. Quite often an bacterial infection like that will 'ride' on top and you can safely rack out from under it.

You want to be extra careful about sanitation to try and make sure you don't transfer the baddies.

Use your judgment. Take a small taste at first. Relax.
