A little background. This mead has been racked 3x total and has been sitting for about 6 months. I racked the last time about 3 months ago. I had completely forgotten about it and checked it today. There is a thin light brown ring around the edge now. The top of the mead looks crystal clear - just that thin brown line around the edges. I tasted it and it tastes fine but I think I was trying to hard too find something wrong. What kind of an infection could this be? Yeast used was D47.

Whoa that's dark. What is it?

Without knowing anything about the recipe or how fermentation went, I say it looks fine. My D47 OB mead has a yeasty ring around the top as well (4 months old now). Infections sometimes (often?) have a look like a web of threads and they'll grow with time.

Rezzin, dude!

How many times have I told you that you just need to be patient and let the mead do it's thing. Your ABV is sufficiently high to kill off any wild yeast or obnoxious bacteria that are trying to gain a foothold in your mead. It will be awesome if you just give it some time.

Oskaar is right on, 3 racks in 6 months is pretty excessive in my book.
