A relative found an old promo brochure for Irish Mist, which is an Irish whiskey (35% ABV) with 5% honey and some Oloroso sherry added. It was pretty conventional except at the end, you heat some Irish Mist and pour it on the roast and flame it when serving.... Might be a nice flair for the holidays.

So, not having heard of it before, I bought some today.... good tasting stuff with definite honey flavor. Info on web and on label indicates the recipe is a thousand years old....(not sure that they were making sherry that far back, but oh well.) As I said, very tasty stuff, and I think Irish Mist and I will become good friends.

Might be great for fortifying as well.
 
We didn't drink it because it was considered more of a cordial. Like that bottle of Chambord (spelling) that sits in the bar for years.

That just does not cut it when you're on a scotch binge, starting off with a bottle of Bushmills then add the single malt sacrifices to the liver god. I think with a group of 10 people we could blow through about 6 bottles or so the first 6 hours, then slowed as we passed into blessed slumber (did I mention it was a slumber party too??). We got together at a house and just brought a bottle of our favorite. After we got 6 bottle of Lagavulin the first year we decided on some and drew them from a hat. All single malts, some quite a mouthful of char, peat and iodine (all from Islay of course). A shot of Irish Mist constantly would gag you from the sugars and all the other herbals in it. Guess we went for tradition first, then purity of spirit. ;D
 
Yeah....i would imagine that single malt and Irish Mist go together about as well as chocolate and sauerkraut.

Yeah, that about covers it. But those days are long past for me, now it's sit and sip a glass of cider, mead, wine, etc... I'm just not capable of swimming in an ocean of booze anymore, I'm back to the kiddie pool for eternity it seems. Just means more savoring less hanging (over) for me! ;D
 
Alas... the bottle of Irish Mist is now about empty. It was great in Irish coffee, as a cold drink with coca cola, as a replacement for vanilla flavoring in a cheesecake recipe, and just straight up neat. Time to see if I can find another bottle of it.....
