hi,

can somene recheck my calculations because it looks like this is not a lot of honey...

1 Galon batch
3 1/2 lbs Clover or your choice honey
=
3,79 Liter batch
300 grams Clover or your choice honey

for 15 liter batch that would mean about 1,187 kilograms of honey ?

15 Liter batch

1,187 kg Clover or your choice honey or blend (will finish sweet)
4 Large oranges (later cut in eights or smaller rind and all)
4 small handfusl of raisins (100 if you count but more or less ok)
4 sticks of cinnamon
4 whole cloves (or 8 if you like - these are potent critters)
optional (a pinch of nutmeg and allspice)(very small)
4 teaspoons of Fleismanns bread yeast (now don't get holy on me--- after all this
is an ancient mead and that's all we had back then)
Balance water to 15 Liters

am I correct ?

Ummm, first off... is that "," supposed to be a "."??? Because otherwise, yes, that is definitely wrong, you'd need a dump truck to hold that much honey.

European notation. ;)

Your numbers are definitely off. 2.2 lbs is 1 kg so you'll need about 1.6 kg per 3.79 liters. (Or 1,6 kg per 3,79 liters if you prefer. ;))

i got 6.255 kg for 15L batch

i do 6gal (23L) batches and use 9kg (should be 9.5 but I wanted it a little less sweet).

i use a fermenter bucket and add a little extra water to make slightly more than 23L of liquid before adding the oranges. that way when i rack into the carboy there is little headspace.
