I haven't been to the Maryland Renaissance Festival in a few years and just went this past Sunday. The mead of the festival is provided by Linganore Winecellars of Mount Airy, Maryland. It was very good. Medium-sweet, lightly-colored with a strong honey flavor. The person serving the mead didn't have any information on honey variety, oak, etc. but hey, it was cool to drink some good mead and watch some dudes beat the snot out of each other in full plate armor. They even made a drink called a "bee-sting" that was a mixture of the Festival's sparkling cider and Linganore mead that was also very good.

They sell Chaucer's at TRF for $18/bottle, and Scarborough Faire has it's own Private Label mead made by a vinyard in Grapevine, TX. Of course, if you know the right people, you can score local mead that was lovingly made in small batches with really wonderful ingredients. ;D
