Mead tasting hors d'ouvres

Things that go with wine would probably work well with mead. Cheeses, crackers, bacon... Well, maybe not the bacon, but if it were me I'd bring bacon.
 
I find that boneless skinless chicken breast is best. Simply sauté with olive oil or butter and salt and pepper. Put them in a hot pan and let them brown on one side before you flip them then cut into cubes.

The salty chicken is a great counterpoint to most meads even if they are dry. Plus it's about the easiest thing to make. Unlike cheese the flavor is light enough that it won't get in the way of the mead.

Tasting is different from pairing. I find that many cheeses make great pairings for mead but they will color the way the mead tastes.

Now if you're aim is to find food that goes well with mead where they make each other taste better, then you're in the right ballpark with bacon. Pork and mead go very well together. BBQ and other smoked preparations will make your mead sing. As will spicy foods.

I haven't had a lot of experience with seafood and mead but I'll bet a spicy shrimp curry will go well with a lot of mead.

It was apparently a success.
I ended up having 14 to taste after members who I didn't know made mead brought 7 bottles along.
It was quite a good night.
Somebody let the coppas know though, cos there were 3 booze busses parked around the area.
I think we only have 4 in the entire state!
 
Here on the beach,, the cops give a certain amount of leeway. 99% of the cars in Miami Beach on any given Friday night are being driven by people over the limit. It doesn't help that there is zero public transportation. If they see you weaving, you're done but otherwise they pretty much just leave folks alone.

Having a neighbor alert the authorities to you having a party so they can come and catch people is just wrong though!

Two things: What did you finally use to feed the people AND what's going on over there that there are so many mead makers? LOL I'm sure that I'm the only one on the entire island of Miami Beach.
 
Oh... I was joking about that. Nobody redirects a booze bus with a tip, let alone 3! These things take planning and resources. There would have been 15 coppas per bus, for a guild of 30? Nah they were just targeting that town on a Friday night.
 
There was a mild sausage that was still a tiny bit spicy for my taste.
What I liked was something that tasted like pulled pork in a subtle plum marinade.
Worked a treat, and really set off some of the samples.

I discovered pulled pork hors d'oeuvres last summer by accident, but what a marvelous accident it was! Me and some friends were in the pool having some ports and meads and we ran out of cheese and crackers. Two of us went inside to get more and, on a whim, placed some pulled pork I had cooked earlier (sans sauce) on one of the cheese crackers. It was so good we made a whole tray of them and they are now one of the staple hors d'oeuvres I serve at get-togethers.
