Well not officially a "mead", it is 30% mead 70% "malt beverage".
Blah.......................
I ordered 3 of these 12.7 oz bottles. It is a product of Belgium and therefore a Lambic beer with mead.
It has a champagne cork and basket for real obvious reasons you will find out when opening. I almost put my eye out.
I barely had the basket off the cork and "blastoff!!"
Real bubbly. The taste is hard to describe. Sour, I think does it. Almost like the used Budweiser keg my local liquor store tried to sell me for a block party last 4th. It was bad.
I started to think it was infected or something but I understand Lambic beers are made with wild yeast.
Let's see if the other 2 get any better...........
 
I love lambic' and i haven't heard of this particular one you are reffering to. What is the name of the brewery?
 
I'm a big fan of the Belgian beers, but was thoroughly disappointed with this beverage. For a Gueuze it was mediocre. :(
 
I thought this beer/mead was GREAT. Sure as a Gueuze it wasn't as crisp sour and funky as Hassen's regular beer but remember that they are cutting it with a large percentage of sweet mead. That is going to cut down on the sour lactic flavors produced by the Pediococcus damnosus and Lactobacillus and mask some of the funkiness of the Brettanomyces. And as a mead it is going to taste like someone was fermenting it on the bathroom floor. But taking all of these flavors together and not pigeon-holing into one category or another you come up with something that is sweet, tart, floral, funky, and effervescent like nothing else on the planet.

I’m not saying you have to like it, because you don’t. But you have to admit it is one of the most unique and ambitious blends you and I will ever see.

I believe that the product was made special for the US market. B United (http://www.bunitedint.com/ ) is one of the most impressive beer and mead importers we have and Matthias brings in sum of the coolest stuff. He also has enough pull to have special stuff made for his exclusive distribution.

I for one think this product is great and like a braggot, a great crossover between beer and mead even though it is a potential eye gouger.

No not officially, I will admit that I do retail the product but I am not one to whore myself out for a sale. I put my full name on all my posts and stand behind what I say. :D

Am new to GMC but have been a member of MLD for a LONG time.

I try and provide the best retail online mead selection available anywhere and I want to bring a different perspective to the forum here and hope people will find it useful.

I'm sure it won't be a problem we have another gentleman here who is working on his online mead sales business as well. Be aware that the folks here are very leary of advertisement from someone they don't know. Just keep it to a level of here's what I have, as opposed to a new blowout sale every other day and I doubt we'll have any issues.

I think most of us are always looking for a bargain!

Rest asured I am not here to make a sale (hence the bathroom floor coment) I have been making mead since 92 and am a mead geek fo the highest order. I just want to participate like the rest of you. Yes you will probably see some banner ads for my store on the top of some pages but that doesn't mean I'm out to sell anything with my posts.

Matt or anyone to bump an old but interesting post,

Do you know if this product Hanssens Artisanaal is available in the 500ml or 750ml sizes.

IMO the 375ml size just doesn't do justice to most of the Lambic style Belgian biers.

I know in some states thats all you can get, but in my experience the character of a big bottle can be 10x better than the 13oz'er. I am just wondering if this braggot royale may be excellent from an aged big bottle & just merely too sour and CO2 agitated in the small container.

a fan of the sour, freaky Belgian masterbrews.

I think I have met few, assuming they imbibe, that do not enjoy mead and comment on its character from the first sip. I can think of almost no one who would first taste a Lambic and not respond in shock or panic. Myself included. It is a specific and unique first taste in beverages.


Does this Hanssens Artisanaal have strong bottle conditioning and solid settlement?
