Hi guys, made my first batch of mead following Ken Schramm´s recipe for a first batch (compleat meadmaker). Since I can´t get nutrients in my country (Argentina) I replaced them with raisins and I used wild flower honey instead of orange blossom.

Primary fermentation went great, and after two weeks I racked to a 20 L (5 US gallons) glass carboy.

at this point I have a couple of concerns. 1) OG was 1091, when I racked it had a SG of 1018, which is a bit higher than I expected. 2) After racking fermentation didn´t resume (or at least the airlock isn´t bubbling). It´s been less than 24 hours, but I don´t know if I should wait a bit more or be concerned. 3) a couple of raisins got transfered to the carboy... is this a problem? and 4) there are some white bubbles on the surface of the mead... I read that it could be the yeast resuming its work, but I can´t really tell if it´s that or an infection.

The yeast I used was Lalvin 71b-1122.

Thank you very much for any help and greetings.

Raisins are a very poor nutrient source. You would have been better of to boil water and add bread yeast to use as a nutrient supplement.

Also it is never a good idea to rack whrn a fermentation is active. Generally it is recommended to complete fermentation and keep stirring the mixture daily for a week or two before racking.

White bubbles are likely just some wax that was in the honey. Wouldn't worry about that unless it starts to grow.

Thank you very much for your reply. I´ll keep that in mind for future batches.
