Is there a difference between leaving a batch in a glass carboy and bottling?

Say for example if I bottle 5 gallons into 12 oz beer bottles and leave 5 gallons in a carboy of an identical product would there be any difference in the end product? If so, then why?
 
I expect that there would be some minor differences in taste at any given point in time due to the differences in volume/mead to air ratio, but the main advantage of bulk aging in a carboy is that you still have the ability to make adjustments if necessary. I do know that, for example, wine in a 750 ml bottle will age more quickly than a 1500 ml magnum because the ratio of air to wine is lower in the magnum. The smaller bottle oxidizes more quickly. However, mead is less susceptible to oxidation than wine.

A large batch will age uniformly (more or less) whereas individual bottles may age at different rates. Larger batches will also resist temperature fluctuations.
