The JAO that I used about 1 3/4 lb of buckwheat honey in puked into the airlock about three times till I just quit topping off and let it be. Didn't clear as well as its wildflower brother, but tasted just fine

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated.

I dumped out the vodka in the airlock and just ran some water through it and cleaned out the orange junk. Took a toothpick and cleaned up the junk in the stopper. Ran some vodka over the airlock parts, stuck it back on and refilled it. It's now bubbling away happily. Eagerly awaiting my first batch . . .

I've noticed, too, that whenever I get something backed up in my airlock, it's usually a good idea to use a napkin or paper towel to absorb a majority of the liquid out of the airlock (3-piece) prior to removal and cleaning.

The reason that I do this is, the first time it happened to me, I noticed that when I went to remove the airlock for cleaning, some of the liquid dripped back through the vent hole into the batch.

If you remove most of the liquid first, this won't happen.
