Hey folks,
Started a new batch o mead. used fresh gala apples in the must this time and it smells kinda like rotten garbage after a day and a half. Normal??
Thanks

My blackberry wine is going like gangbusters but has an awful smell. I'd recommend being patient for a week. A batch usually has three or four different smells during it's fermentation...

In my experience fermenting apples can give off a terrible, usually rotten egg like, smell. It should be fine.

JoeM u called it...rotten eggs is definatly the smell :P
Sound like I'll just have to wait. Keep u guys informed.
Thanks

That rotten egg smell is H2S. Most yeasts with medium to high nitrogen needs will produce excess H2S and give off that sour sulfury rotten egg smell.

Cheers,

Oskaar
