Schramm's Mead is on its way. Please give us a "Like" on our official page on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/SchrammsMeadery

LLC done, EIN in hand, equipment in storage awaiting a location, with licensing to begin within days, and recipe formulations to be fined as quickly as we can thereafter.

We want to make the best mead we can, and we think you'll like it. Highest quality US ingredients, local where possible, and recipes that will make your mouth soooo happy.

With deep gratitude,
Ken

Been looking forward to this since you started posting about it on facebook. Glad you're healthy and will be able to feed my mead habit.

Yeah, things got slowed down, and they are still moving at a snail's pace compared to what I could/would have been doing if I were healthy. But my daughter Alyson is really stepping up, and progress is being made.

You are "liked!"
Keep up the good work!

The place God calls you to
Is the place where
Your deep gladness
And
The world's deep hunger
Meet.

Wow, that is really great, Where will this Meadery be located?

We're going to be close to my home in the northern suburbs of Detroit. We haven't settled on a specific location, but we're looking for something we can afford that has enough room for production and will also serve as a tasting room. I'd like it within 20 minutes or so, so managing fermentations won't be a killer.

I did manage to score some small but very workable stainless from the bankruptcy auction of the Michigan Brewing Company a few weeks ago. We'll need hoses and pumps, and we'll be leaning heavily on some long time friends to help me get things configured (and Matthew already helped a TON). I've already had folks from the Ann Arbor Brewers Guild volunteer to pour in the tasting room.

We'll also be using FB and this forum to inform our decisions on products and lots of other things.

Next is the gritty banks-and-accountants-and-government stuff, but we have enough of the fun stuff going on to keep our enthusiasm high. And believe me, you guys help with that a lot. We just joined the AMMA and the Brewers Association. It's starting to feel remarkably real.

Yours,
Ken

You are "liked". If you need a source for local honey let me know I may have someone. The gentleman I buy my bees from usually has between 250-400 hives depending on the year. Best of luck, I'm looking forward to your grand opening!

Thanks to everyone. We're meeting with our business advisers this week, and will be trying to get a location nailed down shortly. Your support is very much appreciated. I want to start making some mead!

A quick update;

We have a location: 327 W. Nine Mile Rd in Ferndale, MI. We have begun the licensing process, and we will be getting in and making improvements to the location as soon as the tenant that is in there now gets cleared out.

Progress has accelerated substantially. Life is good.

Thanks to everybody who has liked us on Facebook. We'll be making some pretty cool announcements there over the next few weeks.

A quick update and and answer to a question: We are now into our building. We got the keys Thursday, and are doing basic clean up and wall prep so that the demo can happen smoothly. We will be applying for permits with the city Monday.

Our licensing applications are underway, and we're hoping for both State and Federal approvals in about 90 days.

So, when's the first batch going to be ready to drink?! :D

Congratulations on the new venture!

Given that our first batch will be a quick finishing mead, we could have something to sell around May. They'll have to be sweeter, fruitier meads, but I can say they'll be tasty. Things like that Heather Mead will have to age a while before we release it.

We're going to need all the luck we can find. If you have any to spare, please don't hesitate to send it our way.

Yours,
Ken
