I'll be there the first weekend in August. We're driving to WI to see family, and I figured I might as well visit Detroit on the way. B Nektar, Schramm's, and Jolly Pumpkin!

So, what time will you be open? ;)

There's also Bos Meadery in Madison. I picked up their Pomegranate Pyment and it was really good.

The TTB is still holding us up. Our recipe formulations are out past the 34-45 day window, with no contact from them or indication when they might be approved. Any good karma would be most welcome. After that, the label approval process starts. Opening by Mead Day would be a miracle at this point, but we are remaining positive about our future, no matter when the Grand Opening happens.

Sending some good vibes your way! Hope the tropical heat gets them extra strong!

I'm working on going pro myself and will be visiting the Monks Mead guys in two weeks. If I'm able to contact them, that is. Put an email in, but so far no answer. I'll call them tomorrow if I don't get a reply...sometimes busy entrepreneurs don't have time to check website mailboxes...been there!

I just want to see how they are doing it and ask them what they came up against, etc. Different states make for very different challenges, but I suspect that the operations will have many similarities.

Best case I'll be getting great info, worst, drinking some of the mead in a bar and eating great fried chicken...win-win.

We are finally getting close. Five of our labels are approved. We just need to know when they'll be back from the printer. An announcement of our opening date is imminent.

If you ever want to do this, don't have a heart attack and quintuple bypass surgery first.

It'll be a while before we are shipping to other states. We need to get the pipeline filled in MI first, and then we'll look at the larger market. We will look into the shipping question soon, and see what we can afford to do.

Sounds great. I would love to get some. I don't think that shipping to Texas is going to be possible. I just mite need to come there some time.

The meads we will have bottled or on tap for our opening are the Statement (Balaton Cherry), Ginger, Blackberry and Red Raspberry. We will have our Black Raspberry and the Heart of Darkness available for sale just slightly afterward; the labels are a bit more complex, and may take few days longer to get back from the printer. We'll have some small plates and some desserts to munch on along with the meads. The chocolate paté and the Statement is killer. It should be a very pleasant place to while away an afternoon or evening. We'll keep the outdoor seating going as long as we can - hopefully there'll still be a few worthwhile days of decent weather, and people can enjoy the scenery and vibe of Ferndale with their mead.

OK, it's official; we're opening the doors tomorrow at 4:00 PM eastern. We will have some delicious mead and some tasty food, and baby needs a new pair of shoes, so come on down...

Well done Mr "S". All you have to do now is worry about the relatively minor production issues :D which have got to be less stress than the "will they, won't they" irritation of licensing set up.....

If it wasn't for the minor inconvenience of the 3.5 to 4K miles distance, I'd post a sickie and pop over......

Well done to you and yours. .....

Many thanks, and the chances to hoist a flagon will go on for as long as I can keep the home fire burning. Who knows, I may be slinging the stuff in your local pub in a few years, if all goes well. It'd be my honor. Thanks again for the support.

Only 1693 miles away

27 hour according to mapquest. I will have to pop right over! Congratulations on your opening and let us know if you get in the shipping business.

Excellent!

Well, it appears my wife and I get to be the first GotMead members to brag about visiting Schramm's Mead! The mead, as expected, was excellent and the North Sea platter we had was very tasty too. My wife particularly enjoyed Ken's Cyser while I had a hard time deciding between the ginger mead and the heart of darkness.

Ken, his wife and daughter all made a stop at our table to say hello and thank us for coming by and our waitress Alexa was great. I have to bring my book by for Ken to sign on my next visit, which shouldn't be too far in the future.

Ken, we wish you, your family and business all the best.

AAArrrrr, you beat me to it, darn fall. I should make it out soon, but it sounds like things are going well ;-)
