Hi so my question is I want to add fruit after stabilizing my mead in secondary but there will be about 5 inches of headspace with a 14inch diameter in my pail I was only planing on leaving the fruit 10 days then moving to a glass carboy to degas and age will this be a problem will I get vinagar mead?

Yeah, mead is a lot more resistant to oxidation than fruit wines. Are you planning to bag your fruit or leave it free? You might want to weigh the bag down or stir any floating fruit regularly, and when the fruit is out of colour, you can take it out, there won't be much more flavour coming out once the fruit starts going all pale.

When in doubt, I top off my secondary with a layer of argon and CO2 gas that I got from tractor supply. Light enough to let other gases get through but heavy enough to keep oxygen and oxygen dependent bacteria out.
